A solo excursion to Frimley Lodge parkrun while Other Dan is away on holiday in Greece. He’s already run here so I took the chance to tick another parkrun off my list and play catchup on his list.
Parking is available for free at the park but note that this is a well established and busy place so it does get reasonably full. The run briefing takes place next to the pavilion before the runners are led to the nearby start line. A prize is handed out to the tourist from the furthest location, which I think was won by a visitor from Australia this week. He was the proud owner of a Frimley Lodge postcard – a nice touch that I haven’t seen or heard of at any other parkrun.
The course consists of fields, canal paths, crossing a miniature railway, and round a sports field before repeating until you divert up to the finish funnel. I’m not in great shape at the moment so it was a trudge round the course while I took in the scenery. They also have some nifty permanent parkrun course markers so a freedom run would be easy to complete here if you hadn’t visitied before.
I didn’t have time to stay for drinks & snacks after but there is a café at the start / finish area. However, I was delayed leaving due to the weight of the traffic exiting the park and driver trying to enter who wasn’t confident filtering through the narrow path. In the end our halted line traffic had to shunt over as someone guided the poor driver through the gap.
