Our tour of London parkruns continued as we made our way to Bedfont Lakes parkrun for our free weekly 5k timed run. We’re still working our way round the London+ parkrun set but wanted a bed friendly start this week so we made the short journey past Heathrow through to Bedfont Lakes. I was busy chatting to Other Dan on the drive there and didn’t really click that I was passing along the edge of Heathrow airport. That soon changed when a huge passenger plane flew what seemed like inches above the car as it descended over the fence and onto the runway.
The event page lists two car parks with a preference for the Bedfont Road entrance car park, which is a 800m walk / jog away from the start & finish area. We had a leisurely walk to the start area where there were toilets, another car park, and plenty of spaces to secure a bike should you so wish. There was plenty going on around the start area as various parkrunners were celebrating their 10th & 50th runs. Well done to them.
The route comprises of two laps around the country park, on a mixture of compact and tarmac paths. There was plenty of greenery around to admire and a couple of inclines, otherwise the course is flat. We jogged round chatting as always before heading into the finish funnel to collect our tokens.
We enjoyed our visit to Bedfont Lakes parkrun and being part of a great community event. Every parkrun we visit has it’s own different feel to it but all are shaped by the same free timed run centred around a local community coming together each Saturday.
