parkrun #81

by Dan

The stars aligned and The Son made it out of bed to parkrun with me. Operation ‘Wake Swamp Thing’ wasn’t easy but with perseverance, I was able to persuade him to join me at Gunnersbury Park for our weekly timed 5km run.

We haven’t run together for a while and his fitness seems to have slipped thanks to a lack of parkrun and lack of exercise due to school holiday. However, he forced himself into a 28 minute pace thanks to teenage boy who latched on and used us unofficial pacers. The Son doesn’t like it when things look like ‘a race’ (not that parkrun is a race, mind) so he kept the same pace to run with me.

Our shadow trotted off for a sprint finish up the grass slope but The Son had no energy left, and a bright red face, so we let him go and jogged into the finish funnel.

Scrambled egg on toast soon followed :-)
