parkrun #80

by Dan

The son refusing to leave the comfort of his bed – tick.

Eating an early small breakfast – tick.

Getting to Gunnersbury Park early enough for a solid warm up – tick.

Perfect running conditions – tick.

Marathon training banked, fresh feeling legs and no immediate race on the horizon – tick.

It really would have been rude not to spin the legs a bit and go for my first sub-23 minute parkrun since September 2013. I eased down the slope, round the bottom of the park and back up the slope with the mantra ‘hold some back in reserve… hold some back in reserve’ repeating in my head. I then hit the 4km marker and began to reel in some runners as I gradually picked up the pace before a final sprint up the grass slope.

A nice fast time complete with the knowledge that I still had some energy and the legs to go a bit faster. Now it’s time to break into training again with some speed work all ready for summer league.
