The Son finally made it out of bed on parkrun day and accompanied my to Gunnersbury Park!
I was scheduled to volunteer as the tail runner this week, due to the Reading Half taking place the next day, but there had been a mix up on the roster and there were two tailrunners listed. I was asked if I wanted to ran as a pacer but only the 24 & 23 minute vests remained unclaimed and I didn’t want to run that quickly the day before Reading.
In the end I stayed as a tailrunner but ran with the back group of first time parkrunners from the Eagles beginners group, to give them another friendly face to chat to for encouragement. The Son accompanied me and we jogged round together as a kind of ‘pacers for the faster of the beginners’.
The Son insisted on wearing my big warm jacket because he was cold at the start but of course he warmed up by the café so I was left wearing my personal sauna for the rest of the run. Next time I make him bring his proper winter running kit!
A father and teenage girl came sprinting along just before the finish funnel with the girl overtaking The Son in the funnel while the dad did the same to me. The results show that they are both new parkrunners so I’ll let them off this week but really they should have both moved back a position since they finished behind us respectively and only went past us after the finish line.
We joined Other Dan in the café afterwards and we were glad to see that the usual girls were back serving, so it was safe to order a hot chocolate once again. The guy who had covered the past 2 weeks makes a terrible hot chocolate.
