parkrun #72

by Dan

Tilgate parkrun, late start, big loop – little loop – big loop – little loop, full of moan and round ’em up cowboy.

We headed out early, as early as I could with the The Son dragging his heels, and made our way to Tilgate parkrun. I picked out Tilgate based on closeness to the Box Hill Fell race, which I was due to run in the afternoon, and the social media updates that confirmed Tilgate was going to take place despite the inclement weather.

The car park is free before 9am so we sailed in before the barriers came down and joined all the parkrunners making their way to the start line. The route had been moved due to the lakeside paths being under water and we would be tackling the ‘big loop, little loop’ route instead. This saw us running 4 loops that consisted of a big loop, little loop, big loop and a final little loop.

It was raining a bit, there were muddy puddles everywhere and The Son was in a real strop. Not ideal. We ran a bit and walked a lot for one of our slowest parkruns ever. At times I just wanted to give up and drag The Son back to the car but I was determined not to let him DNF at a parkrun.

We popped into the western themed bar / restaurant / coffee bar afterwards where The Son finally cheered up once he got his hands on a hot chocolate and then we were off.
