The Son was out of bed before 4am, which isn’t a big surprise given his 4pm bedtime yesterday, and I joined him at 4:30am with Mrs Dan only 30 minutes later. Hating the jet-lag.
I am clearly getting older and my brain is turning to mush as an update email from The 33rd Box Hill Fell Race team left me wondering why they were spamming me. Then I realised that I had entered the race… but forgotten all about it. I believe the kids call this ‘FOMO’ as it’s something I entered just because some other Eagles were running it. Not quite sure how this slots into my marathon training but it’s an 11am start on a Saturday so I suspect some parkrun tourism will take place that morning.
It wasn’t the best start to the day as I noticed a tyre puncture on the car so there I was fighting to fit the jack and raise the car to put the emergency spare on. I drove The Son to school and then straight to a local garage where they emptied my wallet after replacing the damaged tyre and also another worn down tyre, which I knew was approaching end of life after the last MOT.
I am feeling low today. Low. Low. Low. I am tired and feel drained of all energy. That’s the jet-lag and the disrupted sleep pattern kicking in. I headed out for an 8 mile hill run by running up& down loops of the traffic ramp that leads up from the roundabout to Canary Wharf. Unfortunately it’s pancake flat near my office, certainly in the time available vs distance from the office, so the man made slope is the best I can manage.
There were times when I just wanted to give up today and go back to the office. I haven’t had one of these runs for a while but I struggled through it, even managing to laugh at myself when I stopped for some stretches, stopped my watch and then ran another loop before realising that I hadn’t started my watch again. I know that I ran that loop but the OCD part of me needs the full run recorded so off I went again. Muppet.
So tired at work that I couldn’t get out of the building. I was using my Oyster card instead of my work pass. Finally home and The Son is fast asleep and I will be doing the same shortly.
