Janathon 2014 – Day 3: Here Comes the Sun

by Dan

Sad goodbye, clear & sunny, shopping trip, curry house and a run on the beach.

An emptier and strangely quiet house in the morning as my brother-in-law and family drove back to their home in Kagoshima. The Son usually takes it badly when his cousins leave so we headed straight out on a shopping trip to Uniqlo on another sunny day.

The Son renewed his wardrobe with some Snoopy tops, Mrs Dan picked out new dresses (no need for any size alterations, which made her very happy) and I bought some new sweaters for work.

Operation ‘Keep Son Spirits Up’ appeared to be working and we gave him further cheer by letting him decide where to eat lunch. He chose his favourite Japanese curry restaurant, where I discovered a menu choice of 1-10 on the ‘how hot & spicy’ scale – you are only allowed to choose 6-10 if you have visited before and successfully eaten a 5. I played it safe with a 2, which had enough of a kick to satisfy me, but next time I might try the 5.

Mrs Dan laughed at my training plan (again!) before we headed out for our usual run along the beach. The tide was out today so I ran out onto the exposed sections, which allowed Mrs Dan to walk and meet me at the end, but I got a bit carried away and slid into a pool of water. Wet feet – just what I needed…

I said goodbye to Mrs Dan at the house and then carried on to complete a 6 mile easy run. Only two more days remaining in Ube and I need to fit in 8 miles tomorrow and then 5 miles on Sunday before we fly to Tokyo on the Sunday night.

Janathon 2014:

  • Exercise completed today: running
  • Distance run today: 6.74 miles
  • Distance run so far: 30.72 miles
