Janathon 2014 – Day 27: Christmas Time (Is Here Again)

by Dan

Tentative steps, the wrong trainers and here comes the rain again.

Finally! I laced up my runners and headed outside for my first run in just over a week. It was glorious to be outside again and running, even with a teeny-tiny cough still appearing every now and then.

I decided to wear my new Mizuno shoes for the first time and I suddenly realised that I bought the wrong pair. I went to the shop all primed to buy Wave Inspire, and that’s certainly the pair I asked to try on in the shop, but somehow I didn’t realise that he brought out Wave Rider. Still, I tried them in the store and really liked them so I can handle that.

I did have some foot soreness for a while on the sole of my foot but I realised that the laces were too tight on that side and everything was fine after I loosened them up.

The run went well aside from getting caught in a sudden rain storm when I was about half-way out. I hadn’t applied my wet weather running kit – contact lenses for my eyes and plasters for my nipples. I returned home not being able to see through the water on my glasses and nipples that have grazed against some soft sand paper.

A weekend of running deliveries cheered me up. My 2014 Ealing Half hoodies arrived on Friday alongside my Reading Half race pack. Today my Brighton Half race pack arrived and the Eagles subsidised coach booking for Reading is now available.

I’m really looking forward to seeing how my fitness measures up against my times at Brighton (1:43:42) and Reading (1:38:58)  last year.

Janathon 2014:

  • Exercise completed today: running
  • Distance run today: 5.1 miles
