Janathon 2014 – Day 16: Run for Your Life

by Dan

A run at pace and the INCREDIBLE SULK!

Another busy day at work meant a late lunch and late afternoon run. My schedule called for a 9 mile run with 7 at marathon pace but I needed to be home earlier for The Son so I made it 9 miles total with 8 miles at a marathon pace (approx. 5 min/km).

I took a wet & windy run from my office, through Canary Wharf and then picked up the pace along the Thames footpath until I reached Tower Bridge. A quick stretch stop to admire the tourists and then a fast paced effort back to the gym via the same route. A great run and really felt good afterwards.

My evening spiraled into a series of sulks, tantrums and generally throwing my toys out of the pram. The Son had a school letter detailing Saturday morning rugby practice and rugby matches on either a Saturday or Sunday against other schools. Nearly every date clashes with a booked race for me and counts me out of parkrun for the next 6 weeks.

Yeah, it’s bit of a first world problem but it was the lack of notice that made me angry. A letter on the Thursday night when the first practice is 9:30am on the immediate Saturday morning and no times given for any of the school matches. Not a happy bunny. All these are in addition to the practice sessions and school matches  held during and after school during the week.

I stepped away from the computer to stop myself from sending an email rant to the school.

Janathon 2014:

  • Exercise completed today: running
  • Distance run today: 9.02 miles
  • Distance run so far: 120.93 miles

No notice and six weeks off running and you resisted a ranty email?! You are a pattern card of restraint.
