An easy run and the bridge is raised.
My work diary was packed, which is unusual for a Monday, and I only had a one hour gap in the morning to fit in my scheduled easy 5 mile run with 5 strides. As I rushed out from the office to the gym, I knew that timing was going to be close and getting the run complete, showered and lunch brought back to my desk was going to be a tough ask.
The run was a simple out-and-back on the Thames footpath around the Isle of Dogs and there were plenty of runners out. Not one acknowledged my friendly nod though. I was just about on time to get back when I found that the bridge had been raised above the dock that provides the road and footpath access on one side of the Isle. I was stuck.
Nothing to do except wait it out and chat to one of the other runners, who is currently training for the London Marathon. I made it back to the gym and really should have rushed straight back to the office to only be a little late for the conference call. Sod that. I went to the shop and bought my salad lunch and a small bottle of milk otherwise I would have been tied to my desk with no food for several hours.
Only 25 minutes late for the call…
