Swamp Thing, Dan of the Dump, Gunnersbury 100th, we run in reverse and attendance record smashed.
The Son was hibernating in his bedroom swamp so I left him gently snoring away and made my way to Gunnersbury parkrun via the local dump. Mrs Dan was giving me ‘the look’ and ‘the folding of the arms’ and the ‘tapping of the feet’ as the garden waste bags built in size and blocked her nice view. Other Dan was away at a wedding so could not attend any parkrun, much to his chagrin.
Today was the 100th Gunnersbury parkrun so in celebration the course was reversed while some hardy souls reversed their tops in honour of the event. It was also international parkrun day and the 9th anniversary of Bushy parkrun. Last year I took The Son to Bushy for the 8th anniversary and we’ll probably join the crowds at the 10th anniversary next year.
Today was also an Eagles club championship race, which could be run at any parkrun of choice, unless you volunteered and you had the option to record a parkrun time next week. I was in two minds whether to go for a fast time but decided against it as I have the Royal Parks Half tomorrow.
I didn’t really enjoy the reverse route although it was enjoyable as a novelty. I found myself a bit lost on where to push myself and use the down slops and where the up slopes efforts are needed. I made it round though and enjoyed my parkrunday as per normal before retiring to the café for breakfast.
