The first ‘parkrun proper’ of 2013 saw a record turnout of 234 runners participating at Gunnersbury parkrun. No doubt there were plenty of new eager New Year’s resolutions being met and long may they continue.
I was accompanied by The Son, for the first time in several weeks, as he tried to shake off his running cobwebs and run off some of the Christmas chocolate sets that he has been recently enjoying. The pacers were back in action this week and The Son decided that he wanted to stick with the 30 minute pacer until half-way and then make his customary burst of speed down the grass slope. However, he had not quite taken into account his drop in fitness following his lack of recent participation and we ended up trailing behind the 30 minute pace group all the way round.
It was good to see so many runners out this morning and especially a high number of first timers. Hopefully everyone enjoyed their Saturday morning run and will run or volunteer over the coming weeks. We made our way to the café afterwards where The Son refuelled himself on a sausage sandwich, hot chocolate, and chocolate shortbread. I used the excuse of an afternoon cross-country race to work my way through an enormous bacon roll.
