Janathon 2013 – Day 8: Running Fresh

by Dan

The Son had a secondary school entrance exam to sit today so we were up early so that I could drive him to the school. I decided to take my running kit with me so I could use my time productively rather than  spending 30  minutes driving home and then another 30 minutes driving back to collect him in the afternoon.

I had no place in mind so used the ‘Point of Interest’ feature of the car satnav to identify the reasonably nearby Aldenham Country Park. I found a nice car park and then ran a series of loops around the reservoir. I am not usually a big fan of running sets of loops but it was a new site to me and there was plenty of wildlife to view on the way round. After 8 miles I decided to head back to the car and not set off on a new loop, mainly because I am planning to run 7+ miles tomorrow so want to keep my legs as fresh as possible.

I still had some time to kill so made my way to a nearby café where I tucked into a nice portion of scrambled egg of toast. However, I was more than aware that I was ‘running fresh’ and probably had a small amount of whiff about me. I picked a corner table as far away from everyone else in the vain hope that my smell did not put anyone off their food.
