Janathon 2013 – Day 28: Pesky Varmint

by Dan

I have a new nemesis. He sits in the garden and taunts me with his beady little eye and cocksure manner. He hops across the lawn as though he owns the garden and proceeds to dig little holes all over the place. Worst of all – the pesky varmint raids the bird feeder!

I’m watching you…

The bird-feeders are meant to be squirrel proof but it only took the foul monster 5 minutes to delicately open the top and then carry off the contents one-by-one. I should have known better as I saw my new enemy bounding about outside as I was unlocking the patio door and I believe the little bleeder was sitting behind a bush with a grin on his face as I clambered up the tree. Mrs Dan believes that a squirrel cannot be so smart as to sit and watch me filling the feeder, learning how to operate the catch – I know the truth though!

Tomorrow the pest will have to contend with a small padlock holding down the catch. Let’s see you deal with that Mr Squirrel!

Today saw me head out for my 28th consecutive run of 2013. My marathon training plan had me down for an easy 4 miles but I misjudged a new route and ended up running an extra 0.39 miles. I also need to work on my pacing since every run, except for the weekly speed-work session, ends up at my desired marathon pace.

Janathon 2013:

  • Exercise completed today: running
  • Distance run today:   4.39 miles
  • Distance run so far: 135.32 miles
  • Weight change so far: -1.2kg
