On a cold and frosty morning we made our way to Gunnersbury Park wrapped up in layer upon layer before joining the masses for the run briefing. With a final shudder we peeled our warm coats off to make our way up to the start line and then we were off.
The Son had not been in the best of moods, even threatening not to join me at parkrun today due to the cold weather, and it took the first 1.5km for him to warm up to the point where he was comfortable running the course. Today was the first Saturday of the month so we had various pacers and we were flitting back and forth with the 30 minute pacer as The Son was gradually getting warmer.
We finally passed our pacer just before the half-way point as The Son put on a burst of speed and motored away from me down the grass section. I followed him round for his customary sprint up to the finish line and he had cracked the 30 minute barrier once more. We made a brief stop at the park café where we shared a sausage sandwich and The Son enjoyed a caramel shortbread washed down with a hot chocolate.
