parkrun #15

by Dan

A special parkrun day as The Son was tackling his 10th event and thus securing his parkrun 10 club tee shirt, provided by the lovely people at adidas. This must have meant that The Son was out of bed nice & early with a cheeky whistle and smile. No. Not. At. All.

Unfortunately he was still in a foul mood after a pre-teenage moment the night before, when he tired of his homework and proclaimed in ‘Kevin the teenager’ mode “IT’S NOT FAIR!!!!” before storming off to his bedroom.

So the stage was set for parkrun day:

Our hero enters from stage left… a handsome young man in his late thirties, but looks much younger due to his healthy lifestyle, and he knocks on a door before entering. Out of the darkness he makes out the dim outline of an unknown object spinning towards him. A last minute sidestep saves him from the oblivion of a pillow to the face.

Running Dan: “It’s time to get up, remember that it’s your 10th parkrun today?”

The Son: “Not going”

Running Dan: “Ok, I’ll see you after I get back then”

A brief moment of silence and a shape slowly begins to emerge from the depths of the foul swamp bed…

The Son: “Wait for me then. I’m getting dressed.”

That was not a great start to the day and my hopes were not high for a fast(ish) run. We started off at a fair pace but as we approached the 2km mark, The Son decided to slow to a walk while complaining about cold legs. This pattern continued for the rest of the run and I doubt that there was any real problem other than he was still in bit of a sulk because it was no colder than last week when he set a new PB at Bushy. However, I have now ordered him some running tights and a long sleeved running top so that he can continue running as the temperature continues to drop.

This afternoon he received his results email as well plus an additional parkrun email to congratulate him on his 10th run and details on how to claim his free 10 club tee shirt. Next week we’re away on the Friday night so may go into parkrun tourist mode with a visit to Gunpowder parkrun.
