parkrun #7

by Dan

We were back at Gunnersbury parkrun this week following a week off to watch the Japanese women play in the Olympic football tournament. The Son was keen to shave some time off his first week PB of 33 minutes and 19 seconds and was pressing me to run off by myself so he could run his own race. However, I stressed to him that he is to young to be left running by himself so with only a small sulk (from him) we were off running again.

We ran the first 5k at a pretty comfortable pace for him but then remarkably The Son took off  by himself with an impressive injection of pace so I slowed down a bit and let him run by himself. I kept an eye on him and amazingly he kept going at the faster pace. I was proud of his effort and he would have finished even faster had he not stopped a few times to turn around and make sure that I was ok.

In the end The Son comfortably dipped under the 30 minute barrier with a time of 29 minutes and 40 seconds, which was a cracking 3 minutes and 39 seconds faster than his first attempt at 5k.
