parkrun #5

by Dan

Another Saturday and another parkrun completed at Gunnersbury Park. This week I was joined by my new running buddy, another dad from The Son’s school. He took up running a year or so back and is now a member of his local running club and has been meaning to make it to parkrun for a while. It was good to have someone there to talk to at the start and he recognised some of his fellow club runners, which just proves how great the running community can be.

I tried to run at 5:30 / km pace for the first 4k but failed miserably again as I could not stop myself motoring on closer to 5:00 / km because it just seemed such an easy pace. I started the legs pounding for the last 1km to finish just shy of 25 mins and I was barely out of breath. I was able to make it back to the finish line after getting my barcode scanned ready to cheer Running Buddy for his first parkrun finish.

Adding cycling to me training all through the week, plus the introduction of speed work again, has got me back to my old pace and I am in good shape for the upcoming Ealing Eagles 10k in September.

Next week I am hopeful that The Son will be able to run parkrun with me although that will depend on how much 11+ homework he has left to complete.
