parkrun #4

by Dan

parkrun for me again today at Gunnersbury Park with the now obligatory detour to the dump on route so I can empty the garden waste bags. I was bit earlier than usual this week so I used the time for a warm-up of walk / jog to the toilets where I washed my hands to clear some of the grass cuttings that had stuck to my hands.

My plan was to repeat the same tactics as last week by running around 5:30 per km for the 4k and then picking up the pace for the final km. Tomorrow I should be out on my long run so do not want to wreck my legs, especially as I ramp up the miles next week as I compete in the work ‘summer of sport’ challenge.

I felt like I was pacing myself well and everything seemed so slow but my splits were 5:09, 5:27, 5:19, and 5:17 so my speed work and general fitness is definitely going well because it seemed a lot slower to me at the time. I turned on the afterburners again for the final km and recorded a 4:12, which meant I was a bit faster than originally planned but I was in great shape at the end and knew I could have easily pushed myself a lot harder than that.

Many thanks to those who keep the event going each week and everyone who volunteered their time to help.
