With the BBC weather service reporting rain from late afternoon onwards, I loaded up the car with our bikes and we drove to Richmond Park. We once made the mistake of trying to make the same journey for an afternoon ride but the traffic gets painful and the car parks at the park quickly become full. However, we were nice and early today and there was plenty of car parking available so we quickly got ourself ready and set off for a single lap of the park.
The Son prefers the clockwise circuit thanks to a great downhill section where, provided that there are not too many pedestrians, he can bomb it all the way down. We had a great family ride admiring some of the deer and weaving around the many other walkers, runners, and cyclists.
We stopped at a bench at the top of one of the uphill sections and watched in awe as a young teenager was sprinting up the hill, walking back down, and then sprinting back up again over and over and over. He put my running to shame and I will make sure to include some hill work at the next opportunity.
So another Juneathon day crossed off my calendar with some good old fashioned family exercise thrown in for enjoyment. My weight suddenly dropped down today but I suspect that will change again tomorrow thanks to a visit to a local Italian restaurant where there was a fine looking pizza waiting for me.
