Janathon 2012 – Day 12: work, hamster run, and early sleep again.
The working week is thankfully drawing to a close and I am finally getting used to the daily commute again. I went to university in Aberystwyth back in the day and being in a relatively small town with lots of open space meant that I always experienced culture shock when I stepped off the train at Euston when I returned home at the end of each term. It was always a strange feeling to suddenly be back in crowds of people quickly marching in all directions and I get the same feeling when I get back on the tube after visiting Japan. In fact it’s a strange feeling to be back around non-Japanese looking folk.
My marathon training had me down for a 4 mile run today so after a lengthy project meeting in the office I headed across to the gym and plonked myself on the treadmill. My gym is cheap and cheerful and through 2011 the treadmills started to break down and were never fixed or replaced. Finally we were stuck with a single treadmill that everyone started to fight over until the gym bought in three brand new units following a barrage of complaints from all the members. I am not the worlds greatest fan of treadmill running but when I am limited to my scheduled lunch hour then I find it a lot easier and faster to use them so I can maximise the time available to me.
